I've got a question about DVD encoding. I am trying to transfer VHS
tapes to DVDs. My computer isn't very fast, and, although I can burn
a DVD in a reasonable amount of time, the encoding from VHS to DVD
format takes forever.

I was considering getting a stand-alone DVD recorder and hooking it
directly to my VCR, thus taking the computer out of the loop. So
here's my question:

Can I use this combo (stand-alone burner + VCR) to burn a disc, and
then plop that disc right into my computer DVD drive and not have to
encode it all over again? I do have a lot of editing to do ... but
it's the encoding that seems to take forever. HELP!

Yes, as long as your DVD drive on the computer will read the media you
record on the standalone.
