Hi gordonc,

Services that search for news items are known as clipping services,
because they originally clipped articles from newspapers for their
customers.

There are many to choose from. Here is a representative sample:

"CustomScoop Online News Clipping Service"
http://www.customscoop.com/
CustomScoop scans newswires, newspapers, TV, radio, magazines and
trade journals. Pricing is from $299 per month, and a free trial is
available.

"CyberAlert"
http://www.cyberalert.com/
The "CyberAlert" press clipping and media monitoring service covers
13,000 "media sources", offers a free trial, and has a "set your own
price" promotion. CyberAlert's human-reviewed "AccuClip Express"
service is $189 per month plus $1.09 per clip. Their "Netpinions"
service monitors usenet newsgroups and web message boards, discussion
groups and forums.

"News Power Online"

News Power offers Media Monitoring services (click on the "scope of
services" button) for press clippings, internet clippings and
advertisement monitoring.

"Metro Monitor News Monitoring and Clipping Service"

Metro Monitor monitors radio and TV broadcasts, supplying video clips
and summary reports. They also monitor internet news media sites,
usenet newsgroups and websites.

"Burrelle's Luce"

monitoring and broadcast monitoring. Their FAQ gives a good idea of
how these services operate:

"clippingservice.com"

This comparison site lets you enter your search criteria and returns a
list of clipping services. There is a section for "trials and free
offers". Click on "Find a Clipping Service".

Most news finds its way onto the web. You may find that the following
free web monitoring services are all that you need:

"GoogleAlert"
http://www.googlealert.com/
GoogleAlert is not affiliated with Google. They notify you whenever
new web pages with your target phrase appear in Google's index. They
have a very clear FAQ page:
http://www.googlealert.com/faqs.php

"Google News"
Google's own news service aggregates the content of thousands of news
sources. Their free News Alerts service will email you whenever your
target phrase is mentioned:

I trust that amongst these services you will find one that meets your needs.
