To be politically correct should we use the term American Indians or
Native Americans?  Which is preferred?

"Native Americans" seems to be preferred in the U.S.  "First Nations"
appears to be the usage in Canada.

Since I am Native American myself, I would say that it is a personal
preference. I prefer Native American, but I know a few who prefer
American Indian, or to just be referred to by their tribe in general.
Either one is considered, "politically correct," but you may want to
check with whomever you are talking to to see which they prefer.
