not – so, where there is a distinction, I would like to know the more
prestigious term. Thanks!

Hi there,

Just a suggestion: you may want to split this into several questions
since its unlikely that one person can get all the translations. Also,
several of these languages have a different character set...do you
want the phrenetic spelling of these?

Hi jmhines123!

I'm posting this as a comment, because I'm having too hard a time
finding and confirming the most accurate translations (and was totally
unable to find a useful Bengali dictionary online!) I hope another
researcher can build on this to give you a solid answer.

I found the following translations using multilingual online
dictionaries:

Chinese: ÖÐѧ£»¸ß¼¶ÖÐѧ
(From Tigernt's English-Chinese Online Dictionary @
http://www.tigernt.com/dict.shtml )

Hindi: pAThashAlA,vidyAlaya,shikShAlaya,2. paDhAI,shikShA,3.
shiShya,shiShyagaNa,anuyAyI varga,4. sampradAya,5. padvati
(From the English-Hindi Dictionary transliterated text file located on
Your Dictionary.com, @
http://www.yourdictionary.com/languages/indoiran.html#bengali )

Portugese: gin¨¢sio
(From Travlang's English-Portuguese On-line Dictionary, @
http://dictionaries.travlang.com/EnglishPortuguese/ )

Russian: §£§½§³§º§¡§Á §º§¬§°§§¡; §¤§ª§®§¯§¡§©§ª§Á; §³§²§¦§¥§¯§Á§Á
§º§¬§°§§¡
(From Ectaco's English-Russian Online Dictionary @
http://www.ectaco.com/online/diction.php3?refid=511&rfr_id=4&rqt_id=1640475&pagelang=23&sdiscountid5=DSC-s10-334373&lang=10
)

Japanese: ÐÂÖƸßУ ¡¾¤·¤ó¤»¤¤¤³¤¦¤³¤¦¡¿
(From Jim Breen's WWWJDIC Japanese-English Dictionary Server, Monash
University Site @ http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/jwb/wwwjdic?1C
)

Thanks for the question - I had great fun working in it!

Best, Rebecca

Ok, looke like the characters don't translate so well! The sites I
cited though, will give you the correct characters.

One more suggestion...

If your question doesn't get answered here and you're willing to pay
for the information (which you clearly are,) you might consider using
a translation service. Here are a few you might investigate:

Adams Translation Services

YourDictionary.com Professional Translaion Services
( http://www.yourdictionary.com/translate/translate.html )

Faucheux Transltion Services

And a list of services and referrals at
http://www.cftech.com/BrainBank/INTERNATIONALAFFAIRS/TranslSvcs.html

I hope this helps!

Rebecca

.
Go to http://www.proz.com and post one question per language.

The translators are generally very willing to help for free on
something this short, since they get Kudoz ("brownie points" so to
speak) when their answer is chosen.

Of course, you could also offer money and you wouldn't get turned
down! ;-)

One nice thing about the site is that you can look up the ProZ page
for each translator offering an answer and see what credentials and
experience they have.

Hope that helps!
