Firstly, we need the abilty to add and delete search engines to submit to.

Also, we would like the search engine column heading to be a link to
the search engine's add url page - in a popup.

So, to add/edit a search engine, we need to have a page with a form collecting:

Search Engine Name:
Engine add url page url:
Show: (yes/no)

Secondly (we dont necesserily want this doing as a part of this
question), what is the feasibilty of having a page spider a url (say 3
links deep) grabbing URLs at it goes along. This would allow us to
have a list of the client's existing pages to submit. This would need
to have a seperate page (eg clients-own-pages.php) where we can submit
the client's existing pages.

To clarify, this, client's pages submit page MUST be seperate from the
optimised pages submit list.

Because i am not sure what's involved in the spidering, im not sure
what to price the question at, or even if you have the ability to do
it or not, so please advise.

 As I see it, there are two complete different parts here:
 -Modify the existing code to allow you manage search engines:
  *Add/Delete/Modify Search engines
  *Allow you to link directly from the tool to the url submit page of
that search engine
 -Add code to allow you automatically grab a customer website
(customizable deep level)
 
No problem, I'm able to do both, the first part is a bit complicated
because the current code is centered in the 3 search engine, so I will
need to modify a lot. The second part is also possible, no problem on
that.

Just tell me if everything is ok and I start working on it.

  I have been thinking on how to modify the program to allow you
manage N search engines instead the fixed 3 you have right now, and
there are small problems, for example:
-Right now, the three search engines are shown horizontally along with
URLs, if you add some more, it won't fit. I can place them vertically
just below each URL, is that ok for you?

-Also, we use a color code to identify the state of each URL, for
example, "pending Altavista", how must that work now?

Hi,

Thanks for your work so far, please go ahead and scrap the colour
coding (except for the colour to identify the layered pages).

As for the search engines, i dont ever see that there would be more
than 5 search engines at the most. I have spoken to the submitters and
they would prefer just to have to scroll, rather than have the
vertical list under each url.

In the worst cases, we could provide 21" monitors :)

I know that from a programmers viewpoint, you need to cater for X
number of possibilities (engines in this case), but we would prefer
just to have fixed width engine columns that just scroll horizontally.
Hope thats ok.

consuming job, we can always accept this answer and post a second

  I have just finished adding the options to allow you
add/delete/modify search engines, the next step is to port your
current submission data to the new database structure, for that, I
need you to stop using the application, so I will port the data and I
will make the app work with the new structure.

  I have just finished the modifications to allow you add new search
engines. Sorry for the delay, but this has been a huge one, I have had
to modify most of the core, both for submitting and for filtering the
database. Please, test it thoroughtly and don't hesitate to request
for any clarification.
  
  If everything is ok, we can move on to the second part of this
question in a new one, if it's possible ;-)
