If you're interested, I have located a formulation the bath itself,
but not how to apply it to iron parts.

that should read: "a formulation for the bath itself"

We have formulations of zinc iron electroplating baths. We are an
electroplating company trying to figure out how to clean and activate
iron castings. We know that Zinc iron is very hard to apply and that
another plating formulation is necessary between proper cleaning and
alkaline zinc iron plating. So this is the step in the process we are
investigating. We want chemistry, concentrations, temperature,
amps/ft, etc.

why not simply ask a company selling the baths?
