Howdy thewoolleyman-ga,
You have to understand that the majority of dial-up Internet Service
Provider (ISPs) companies are "just" resellers of one of the 2 or 3
national "bulk" providers of dial-up service. These providers have
point-of-presence (POP, or essentially dial-up numbers/modems) for
most, if not all, of the area codes through the country.
It wouldn't surprise me if there were 100 or more companies that sell
(actually resell) dial-up access in the cities you are asking about,
but as they are essentially reselling the same numbers, etc. it would
help Researchers if you could perhaps refine your Question to a certain
fixed number of ISPs (the 20 least expensive?) or pricing, etc. Thanks!
Looking Forward, denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher

I would just like a list of several with the prices. If there could
be some rating of customer satisfaction also that would be very useful
too. Carlsbad is a pretty small town though, I wouldn't think there
are hundreds of ISPs with a presence there, but I may be wrong.

Hello Thewolleyman,
I don't suppose you have local service to:
- Hobbes
- Roswell
or
- Alamogordo
from Carlsbad NM. My favorite ISP (Compuserve) has between 20 & 30
access numbers in New Mexico, but the closest sites are those I
listed. There is also an 800 number available - but that has an extra
fee (per minute).

Nope, Carlsbad is long distance to anywhere but Carlsbad. I currently
have AT&T which has a number in Hobbs, but that is long distance.
Their 800 fee is $.10/min, which is more than long distance.
