Dear painternow-ga;
Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting question.
Actually, most virtual tours you see today are not created with
digital camcorders at all but with cameras capable of taking panoramic
photos. Virtual tour images are created by capturing a 360-degree
image from the center point of view of the scene. By placing a
specially equipped digital or film camera on a panoramic tripod head
at the center point of the scene and rotating the camera as the image
is captured you can achieve this effect. It does require some
?know-how? because proper exposure compensation and other
considerations are critical during this step in order to assure a high
quality and visually convincing outcome.
There are a variety of cameras on the market that come user-ready and
which are designed to do specifically what you are referring to. Ipix
makes one such camera and it is priced at about $1,500. The other end
of the spectrum is the Panoscan system, which goes for a whopping
$28,000!
Of course, the software is another issue, and while a person
knowledgeable in this area ?can? do it without software, even they
would probably rather opt for a software designed to do it for them.
Here are some potential software options:

As for the deployment of your finished product to the consumer, the
best (and simplest) way to do this is via CD. You just burn the
finished product to a CD and send it or deliver it to your customer
similar to the way this company does it:
