I have some older programs. The person or company no longer supports
the software. I paid for the program. I have to keep Windows 98 on
another computer just to use this software because of the copy
protection.

There is no room on the XP computer for two operating systems.

I need a program that will accomplish the transport from 98 to XP
using a CD since they cannot be connected.

My quick and simple solution would be to take the hard disk out of the
98 machine and add it to the XP machine

anything further then that I would need more information about the
program involved and what exactly you mean by copy protection

By copy protection I mean regristration or a license code. For the
first instance, the program is VFZoom, originally from CELARTEM
Technology Inc.
Their name does not come up in Google. I know they were bought out by
another company and the program was dropped. My copy only lasted a
few months and then they "discontinued" the product and for a hundred
dollars or so I could get an upgrade...This program works for my
purpose. I have the registration code but when I try to register, it
becomes invalid.

Moving the hard drive is not an option. I do not want to run Windows
98 any more. I would move it for migration if that would work.

Thank you for your interest in my question.

You could connect the 98 drive temporarily as slave to the XP
machine, then use xxcopy from www.xxcopy.com to clone the entire
drive(or any programs)to the XP drive. Then remove the slave drive.Max
blast from www.maxtor.com will also work and may be easier if you
don't like working with command line parameters. They are both free.

The comment from misterbig-ga does not put the program on the XP
operating system. I would have to use dual booting and still have 98
to deal with.

Celartem still exists and still sells VFZoom (version 2.2 now)
http://www.celartem.com however you say the problem in in the
licensing of the product , there is a chance the product does not work
with XP or windows 2000 (which are essentially the same engines) and
that you have to buy an update
you could try a wholesale copy by adding the 98 hard disk to your xp
machine and copy the program , however there is a good chance it will
not work since the program will look for the registration info in the
registry. Your best bet would be to contact the company (info at the
bottom of this message) and see if they can help you out

I guess Celeartem was a BAD EXAMPLE. That program example was intended
to respond to the type of program, NOT necessarily just THAT program.

I am looking for a transport program which will never require me to
use Windows 98 again AND USE THE PROGRAMS I PAID FOR IN WINDOWS 98 ON
MY XP OPERATING SYSTEM ONLY. So far, many programs with the
regestration codes will work but not all.
