Hi giraffes040404,

"Is is true that the real GOTH followers sleep in coffins?"

It is true that *some* Goths sleep in coffins, but you'll probably
find that most don't. If you mean, to be a "real" Goth, would you have
to sleep in a coffin, the answer is "No". As with any culture or
belief, traditions and practises vary widely, not only between regions
but between individuals as well. An important part of being a Goth is
"doing your own thing" - in other words, Goths do what they are
comfortable with and leave the rest to others.

Vampires must sleep in Coffins:
"This too is untrue. Vampires (aside from 'Goths' with fetishes) have
no compulsion, to sleep in a coffin. Coffins, after all, are not
designed to sleep in and are not at all comfortable without
substantial modifications. They simply aren't made to be comfortable,
which makes sense when you think about the fact that the intended
occupant has no real need for comfort. Most to all vampires sleep in
beds (or on couches, or on the floor) like anyone else would."

Sleeping In Coffins Not Mandatory:
"Closely related to the way that Goths dress up, is the myth that all
Goths sleep in coffins. Some do and some consider a child's casket a
perfectly acceptable couch table. A Goth's preferred colour of
interior design would commonly be black with a tendency towards
drapes, candles, torches, incense7, dried roses and maybe the
occasional (fake) cobweb or skull."

"Those seriously involved may practice one or more of the following:
blood-drinking, sleeping in coffins, avoiding daylight, performing
occult rituals, taking drugs, wearing fangs or having incisors
sharpened, and engaging in unusual sexual practices."

Facts;
"Some Goths sleep in coffins and wear fangs on special nights out."

Plus, you don't have to be a goth to want to sleep in a coffin. For
example, me. I just want to sleep in a coffin because I don't mind
small, poorly-cushioned spaces, but I'm very sensitive to light and
sound when I fall asleep. A coffin (with air holes and climate
control) would suit me quite well.
