I have gathered some Bible verses that make reference to laughter,
merriment, and mirth. I've left out verses in which laughter indicates
mockery or scorn, or has other negative connotations. I have also
omitted verses which refer to joy and rejoicing; these have a
spiritual connotation that goes beyond laughter and good humor.
The verses below are from the King James Version.
GENESIS 17:17
Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart,
Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall
Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
GENESIS 18:12
Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old
shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
GENESIS 21:6
And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will
laugh with me.
