Hi, bluekat-ga:
It might be helpful to identify the subject area of these formulas as
well as the level of mathematics required (high school, undergraduate,
graduate, or advanced research).
Are you thinking about consulting with said mathematician by email?
Or under some other kind of arrangement?
Also, it's not clear what you mean by "write some formulaes". One
sort of task might be to prepare equations for publication or display,
e.g. in TeX or MathML. A mathematician might be able to help with
this, but more likely a technical secretary would be a better
resource.
Depending on the nature of your project, you might try any of these approaches:
- inquire at a local university, someone in their math dept. might have an interest
- post a thread on one of the mathematically oriented newsgroups
(alt.math.recreational is one possibility for friendly banter;
sci.math is an unmoderated and fairly busy group, watch out for
flames; sci.math.num-analysis might be good for computational
problems; sci.math.research is a moderated group and would be more
appropriate for very advanced math topics)
- umm, ask the Questions here?
If you're really interested in hiring a mathematician, the hourly
rates for consulting tend to be hire than for programmers and
plumbers. Nonetheless I'd be happy to post some linke to
mathematically oriented consulting firms, if you'd like, as an Answer.
