i just downloaded postnuke,installed php and mysql with apache.
I want to customize postnuke on my localhost.
The first place is changing the look of the skin.
I downloaded some templates for postnuke,how do i add them to the
portal,imean change the present theme.
then if i download modules how do i add to the site too.

i got some themes from a site.
i unpacked it to the themes directory
it worked but never loaded my that centre message.
"this is postnuke bla bla.
do u know where i can get themes that work with present version of postnuke.

as per the modules i did what u said i unpacked the activated in my admin.
but how do i make it appear in my links so my users can click,i want
to appear on my home page
pls help

Boy, do I know the feeling. It's difficult and often impossible not
find answers. The documentation is a bit, ahem, lacking.

To cut to the chase, I think you would normally untar/unzip them. But
if the themes are AutoThemes then they have to be untar'd to the
Autotheme directory.
I think the way it goes is that you put the file about the directory u
want to untar, then

tar -fvxv <<filename>>.gz 

Same goes for other modules. For modules you have to install, then 
go to the Admin/pnModules and initialize and activate them. Hope this helped!
