internal users are using browser in our intranet and after awhile the process named lexbcs takes 100% of the CPU resources and locks everyone up. Browser start page used then is not accessible and all users are locked. I then reboot system. This is a major problem during a normal workday. | |

Greetings! The problem is caused by a piece of software from LexMark, a printer company. I simply cannot state this any better than this: http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_l.htm "This program is a component of the Lexmark MarkVision software. If your Lexmark printer comes with an internal network card, you will need to install MarkVision to configure that network card. This results in LEXBCES running as a background process on Windows 9x and as a service in Windows NT4." "Recommendation : If you are not experiencing any problems, leave alone. In our case, however, we have found the MarkVision software extremely buggy, to cause Windows startup problems, to cause serious performance hogs, and a number of other problems. As a result, while we often recommend Lexmark printers, particularly for the high end lasers, we now never ever buy Lexmark printers with in-built network cards we use external Intel Netport Express print servers instead." And my contribution to the answer: Uninstall the MarkVision software. If you need networked pritner support, I agree with the recommendation for the Intel network print servers. Good luck, and if you need further information, feel free to ask for clarification. Search Terms: "lexbces" |

Search your system looking for the keyword "lexbcs" and possibly the filename lexbcs.exe or lexbcs.dll. Find the corresponding program and rename/disable/delete it. If this does not work, try using pstools v1.55 and handle v2.01 from http://www.sysinternals.com to investigate the process and the files it is using. |

There is also a service named Lexbces.exe that is a two way communication protocol between the PC and the printer, this lets the CPU know when your out of ink. This is also very buggy. Under NT 4.0 I know you can In the control panel disable the LEXBCES Service (you will have to stop the spooler.) Set Lexbces to Disabled. run CMD >> Lexbces.exe /u Delete any Lexbces.exe on your drive Run Regedit Go to the HKLM Current Control Set, Services, Spooler, And delete the Depend on service Dword. Restart the PC. Spooler now starts without the lexbces service. Eliminating many problems with physical memory dumps while trying to print. |
