Phenylalanine Phenylalanine is a naturally occurring amino acid that is found only as a combination of many other amino acids. Phenylalanine occurs in aspartame without its natural companions. The Phenylalanine in aspartame breaks down into DKP, a known tumor agent. Phenylalanine can cause serotonin levels in the brain to decrease, producing emotional disorders such as depression, mood swings, and violent rages. It also lowers seizure thresholds, is seen as a neurotoxin, and is suspected of causing brain tumors. Aspartic Acid Like Phenylalanine, aspartic acid is an amino acid found naturally only in combination with other amino acids and is found in aspartame alone. In this form, aspartic acid is a neurotoxin. It has a cumulative effect on the endocrine and reproductive systems, and in excessive amounts will cause overexcitement of brain cells, causing them to be stimulated to death. Apart from just not drinking diet sodas, is there any thing(s) I can take, consume, to offset the effects of Espartame? | |

As far as I've ever read, there isn't anything one can consume to counteract the effects of Aspartame. Phenyketonurics are told to avoid the substance for this reason. Personally, I avoid it like the plague. I always end up with the Migraine From Hell(TM) after ingesting Aspartame, and have decided that I can live without the stuff if it's going to do *that* to me. --Missy |

Avoid it entirely. Read labels it is in everything, foods, gum, candy and soft drinks(mostly diet sodas.). The only way to flush it out of the system is through regular consumption of various anti-oxidants which bond with free radicals like formic acid, and other compounds that are created when Aspartame breaks down in the body. Examples of Antioxidants are ALL plants period, fruits and vegetables. Blue berries for example and berries have the highest antioxidant content of any known fruit. Be careful as too much will cause your body to go into detox and make your body feel achy and worse. See a doctor(nautropathic) or chinese medicine doctor about changing your diet. |

John, Since eihwaz-ga is not a Google Answers Researcher, he or she will not be able to post an answer. You can tell Researchers from non-Researchers by noting whether or not a person's username is highlighted and "clickable." You can click on a Researcher's name, and you'll go to a list of that Researcher's past answers, and overall rating. Non-Researchers' names aren't "clickable." ~Pink |

As far as I know the only hazard concerning asparatame is if it is exposed to extremely high heat. The government would not keep it on the market if it was a dangerous ingrediant. The human body creates new cells everday and eliminates the bad ones, this is how we stay alive and remain healthy. It is our ability to fight off the negative agents that enter our bodies. Keep A HEALTHY LIVER! There are many sodas on the market that are natural and do not contain asparatame, they have less calories than regular soda and taste almost the same, actually they are better. Blue Sky is one, Hansens all natural soda, Knudsons, just to name a few. There are alternatives. Stay Healthy! Spinnster Spinnster. |
