I'm writing a book and want to print page proofs to my inkjet printer
(HP G85). The page size is 6x9 inches and I want to print two facing
pages on each 8.5x11 sheet at actual size. This should be mechanically
possible if I don't care about the outer margins. The
printer specs say it can print to within .07" of the top, .46" of the
bottom, and .25" of left and right sides. The maximum printed area on
each 6x9 page is 4.5"x7.75" with 5/8" margins on the inside of each
page (i.e. the right margin on the left page and vice-versa). So the
overall image size of two facing pages ought to be 7.75"x10.25",
printable on the printer's image area of 8"x10.47".

The book is created in Adobe FrameMaker (v6) and converted to pdf
using Acrobat Distiller (v4.0). I don't print from FrameMaker because
I use eps for embedded figures and the printer (not postscript) can't
print the raster images. I print using Adobe Reader (v6.0) and under
the "Features" tab of Printer Properties I set "2 pages per sheet" and
Portrait orientation. This gives me exactly the output I want except
that the image is scaled way down to about 2/3 size. It looks like the
software is printing the full 6x9 pages, leaving a generous margin
between the facing pages, generous margins around the outside, then
scaling it down to fit. Reasonable, but not what I want. I want the
pages at 100% (or close) and the outside margins be hanged.

I do this often and to lots of pages so the solution needs to be
pretty much automatic. How can I do this?
