Hi elky-ga!

Have you recently upgraded your system to Windows XP?

I've been doing some more digging here, and there's something else I'd
like you to check if you would. I assume you're using Windows.

Can you open the Device Manager and see if the scanner is registered
under "other devices? To access the Device Manager, open the Control
Panel and double-click the System icon. From there, select the
Hardware tab and click the "Device Manager" button. You'll see a list
of devices on your system- expand the node that says "Other Devices"
and see if your scanner (CanoScan) is listed there. It may have a
question mark/yellow circle icon if it is.

Please let me know if it's there.

Together, we'll troubleshoot this for you, but I'm not going to post
an answer until we've figured out what your problem is. That way you
don't have to pay for an answer that isn't correct!

Hi Cyclometh-ga,
I'm using windows M.E. I downloaded an updated driver file from
Canon. To instal I had to uninstal the old one.Wizard installs up to
completion then up comes the missing file message & installation
fails.Advice from Canon ignored the problem of the file missing
&checking on the net shows that the problem affects many others in the
same way.Ihave done the device mgr thing, removed all reference to the
scanner, all yellow ? marks etc. but all efforts are to no avail. The
problem appears to be common to that scanner but I just cannot get any
answers or help to solve it.Ihope you can help, regards elky
