Hi ach,
Ice makers are produced for both the domestic and commercial
(catering) markets. However, only a domestic model will fall into your
price range.
The dominant domestic ice-maker in the UK appears to be the Contessa.
But will it produce ice fast enough for a social club? According to
the following page, the Contessa produces 12 cubes in 15 minutes, or
up to 9 kilograms in 24 hours:

If this capacity is sufficient, the Contessa does seem to meet your
other needs. The size is 350mm high by 352mm wide by 422mm deep, and
the ice cubes can be produced in three sizes. Photos of the standard
Contessa ice maker and the ice cubes that it produces are here:

The standard Contessa ice maker can be ordered from Refrigeration
Installations Ltd for £249 including VAT and delivery, or order online
from the above link. Their freephone order line is 0800 174302. A
second source for this model is wheesh.com for £245 including VAT and
3-4 day delivery - freephone 0800 195 7820 or order online from the
topmost link above.
Refrigeration Installations Ltd also sell ex-exhibition Contessa ice
makers for £199 including VAT and delivery, with a 6-month warranty:

For a social club, it's worth considering paying a little extra (£265
including VAT and delivery) for the combined mains/portable Contessa.
You can connect this up to a tap with a hose, so that you don't have
to continually fill the water compartment with a jug:

If you need more than 12 cubes per 15 minutes, you can buy a
commercial ice maker, of which you can see several if you page through
the five screens returned by this search:

A product such as the Maidaid M22-5 Ice Maker
http://www.cateringwarehouse.com/mall/productpage.cfm/CateringWarehouse/CW0510
is £494 (presumably plus VAT and delivery) and at 595mm high might
still fit on your worktop. Or perhaps you could just put two Contessas
side-by-side.
I hope this provides the information you need. Feel free to request
clarification if you would like any further information.

Hi ach,
I see that the Google Answers server has not made the first link
clickable, due to the unusual characters in the URL. However, if you
cut and paste the link into your browser it should work.
Also, due to the way the Catering Warehouse website is set up, the
link in the answer does not work. You will need to start from their
home page
http://www.cateringwarehouse.com/
and enter the search term "ice machine" into the "search for products" box.
My apologies for any inconvenience that these malfunctioning links have caused you.
