I want to find a used or new hard cover book of the following title
"Colonel Chabert" by Honore de Balzac. I would like the french version
of this book. I want a "nice" copy that is neither extravagant nor
cheap looking: a "nice" copy that I can present to a statesman with an
extensive library that is missing this simple tale. I would like to
pay less than $20US and it must be able to shiip to Canada. I do not
want websites for new/used books, I want specific confirmation
how/where this particular book is available.

It is possible that Amazon.com sells used books in tthe original
French and sometimes with various conditions available. You may have
to go to the actual French Amazon sight by attaching "fr"to the URL
end of name ojust enter Amazon and French in say Google search engine.

Hello Izz,
I apologize that I overlooked the fact that you were looking for a
HARDCOVER edition in French of "Colonel Chabert." As you may have
already found out, it seems that all the used copies available from
the larger online booksellers are softcover copies. I have contacted
booksellers in France and Canada, hoping one of them might have a
hardcover copy, and am waiting to hear back. But as you may know,
softcover publishing has been the norm in France for sometime, so I am
not sure what the chances are of finding a hardcover copy. But I shall
keep trying.

Just FYI. I did hear from a Paris bookseller who offers the following:
Cher Monsieur,

Claude Blaizot

LIBRAIRIE AUGUSTE BLAIZOT
164 faubourg Saint Honore

France

At 160 Euros, it's not a candidate I know, but thought you might like
to know there's at least ONE hardcover copy out there.
