What were the average salaries of NBA (2002-03 season)
and MLB (2003 season) players? There may be disagreement

Hi bugbear!!

Average salaries of NBA (2002-03 season):

The most complete source for this is the "Patricia's Various Basketball Stuff":
http://www.dfw.net/~patricia/

At this site you can find a complete report of NBA salaries for
seasons 85-86 to 03-04, these reports include Team Payrolls, Average
salaries, list of Players earning $7 million or more, and for each
team a Player by Player slary list. For the season 02-03, and from
this source, the average salary was $4,015,132, and the page is:
http://www.dfw.net/~patricia/misc/salaries03.txt

A different source is USAToday.com:
"Pro Bascketball - Salaries by the numbers":
Here you have lists of the top 10 Highest paid players in 2002-03,
Highest paid by position, Paid not to play (Players who no longer are
in the league yet are getting paid), Minimums and maximums salaries,
The salary cap for seasons 98-99 to 02-03. For this source the average
salary for the season 2002-03 was $4.5 million:
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/2002-2003-nba-salaries-numbers.htm

Almost other sources take their numbers from the two above.

You can also see the following pages:
"2002-2003 NBA salaries ? Western Conference":
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/2002-2003-nba-salaries-western-conference.htm

"2002-2003 NBA salaries ? Eastern Conference":
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/2002-2003-nba-salaries-eastern-conference.htm

"NBA Team Salaries 2002 - 2003" from INSIDEHOOPS.COM (it have not the averages):

Average salaries of MLB (2003 season):

"Baseball Average Salaries from 1998-2003" By Adam Conn:
Average baseball salaries by club in 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999 and
1998 as compiled by the Major League Baseball Players Association.
Averages included prorated signing bonuses and discounts salaries
deferred without interest.

"AVERAGE SALARIES" from ESPN.com (from Associated Press):
Here you will find another table of average salaries of the MLB from
year 1989 to year 2003.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2003/0403/1533578.html

You can consult the USA TODAY's baseball salaries database, this page
contains year-by-year listings of salaries for Major League Baseball
players on opening day rosters, 1988 through the current season. The
search options here allow you to see salaries for specific players,
plus median and total salaries for each team:
http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/salaries/default.aspx

The result page for 2003 season sorting teams by Median salary is:
http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/salaries/mediansalaries.aspx?year=2003

Unfortunately this page does not give us the total average salary,
only team by team.
