Did Mac Davis sing a song called "Sad Girl" about 30 years ago? If
not, who did and where can I find it? |

I've found a 30 year-old song called "Sad Girl", which is supposed to
have been (I haven't heard it) a minor hit, not by Mac Davis but by
another artist. The other artist ( a "three hit wonder") leans more
towards an R&B and soul, could that be?

I don't think it would have been considered R&B. I remember some of
the lyrics. They were:
Honey can't you see I love you madly
We could make a brand new start
Please come back to me
I want you badly
Don't give me a broken heart
Sad Girl
She's a Sad Girl
Not a Bad Girl......
That's all I can remember and even a couple of those words might be
off, but that's basically what the lyrics are. And it's at least 30
years since I heard it. It may be older but probably not much. I
don't htink it had been out very long when I heard it back then. I
could have sworn it was Mac Davis or BJ Thomas or somebody like that.
Don't remember for sure.

There is a song called "Sad Girl" that is from the right era, and it
is a ballad, and it tantalizingly contains one (but only one) of the
other lyric lines that you cite. It has been recorded by several
artists, all of whom fall into the category of 60s R&B, except one.
That one is a 60s Los Angeles-based Latino band with a lead vocalist
that was influenced both by British pop/rock and by the more
traditional R&B. This band was (and is) nationally popular enough to
have a CD compilation that is available.
If you don't recall the song as being performed by a traditional R&B
artist, could you possibly have heard the song on a LA radio station
or on another station that may have featured sich a Latino artist?

Well, this song would certainly have been considered a ballad, in my
opinion. I lived in Kansas at the time I heard the song, and it was
on a cassette tape. I can't say for sure whether it would have been
considered R&B. Back then, R&B sounded different than it does now!!
But I don't think so. More like a ballad. But I do know that these
part of the lyrics are correct "Honey can't you see I love you madly,
we could make a brand new start" as well as the part that says "sad
girl, she's a sad girl, not a bad girl" - that part is also correct.
I know the tune in my head, but obviously can't communicate it by
writing. I couldn't tell if it would have been a Latino group. It
was only one man that sang the song and he didn't seem to have any
accent. But if your song contains those lyrics, then perhaps you have
stumbled on it. Can you tell me who the singer is?

This is not the song, but you have certainly tried hard. I truly
appreciate your work. I wish I could find the song. It seems to have
disappeared. The lyrics I gave in a previous posting are accurate,
even though that's all I remember. The song I'm looking for does
contain at least those lyrics I gave. Your song does contain only one
sentence of the lyrics I gave, but unfortunately that is not the song.
Again thank you so much for trying.
