Question ID: 326767
I am looking for a picture of the 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser (Japanese
version sold in Japan only). I need a picture of the rear window and
cargo area to see if there is a bar half way down the window. A side
view picture looking throught the back window into the cargoe area
would suffice. I want to know if this bar was a standard verion of the
Land Cruiser or was it added by an owner. It must be the Land Cruiser
that is sold in Japan only, not in U.S. or any other country.

I have posted pictures as pdfs on my web site of 1998 Toyotas that I
have already found at
http://homepage.mac.com/stevemcintosh/FileSharing8.html

The pdfs are titled toyota1.pdf and toyota2.pdf. And the pdf labeled
98toyotalandcruiser is the feature I am trying to verify.

Also, I have put a MS Word file up on the web site to show you the
sites where I found these photos.
The file is called toyotaurls.doc.

I DO NOT WANT duplicates of these pictures or urls. I am looking for
new and different photos from web sites.

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know I have some emails off to a few places
trying to get your pictures or info for you. Just wanted to let you
know at least 1 reseacher was working on this. If anyone else gets to
it before me, wonderful. I hope you get your information from me or
another reseacher as soon as we can get it ourselves.

santabarbara,

While I do not have a picture of the bar, I do have an answer from
Toyota directly about the bars on the 1998 japanese Landcruiser and
why they are there, where they came from, etc. I thought I would ask
if this would suffice as an answer to your question, because it seems
to be that you're trying to find out of it's a manufacturer or after
market part. Let me know if this would be an acceptable answer for
you, and soon as you tell me, i'll get back to you.

santabarbera, wonderful!

Ok, after a bit of research, I have a new friend and your answer. Let
me tell you the answer, and then how I got there. The bar you
mentioned in your pics and in your question is a bar that came from
Toyota as a security feature.
Also
"The Japanese market is like the market in the US -- you can get whatever
options that are available in any combination, but you'll have to wait for
them to build it. So there are option packages, and dealer add-ons. I'm
quite certain this security feature is offered by Toyota in a package, and
as a dealer add-on. So yes, standard in some, not in others. All that said,
I would suppose with the advent of factory alarms on the 80 series trucks
(and now 100 and 120) that this feature might have been discontinued. I have
seen it on the 55, 60, and 62 series."

You can also buy this book that will tell you a lot about the Landcruiser
"If he really wants to know, tell him to buy this 50th Anniversary book:
http://tinyurl.com/2ue3w."

Those facts about the bar came from Todd Kaderabek
Todd@larkbooks.com

I came across Todd from a refernce from me emailing the US Toyota
site. One of their reps gave me his name.

I found out this information after a long search thru a # of sites and
people telling me to email other people.

I started my search with Google Searching for Toyota

I emailed the company from this site
http://toyota.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/toyota.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?p_sid=kr4Plo8h&p_lva=&p_sp=&p_li=

You can also contact them here
http://www.toyota.com/about/contact/

Here's a site about japanese Toyota production plans
http://www.toyota.co.jp/en/about_toyota/manufacturing/index.html

I'm glad we now know about your bar, where it's on some and not
others, and how it came about. It seems like a great optional safety
feature.

I also have an email into the TLCA mentioned in the comments. If I
hear back from them with any additional info, I will post it here as a
clarification as soon as I have it.

So the source of the following quotation is Todd Kaderabek? "
"The Japanese market is like the market in the US -- you can get whatever
options that are available in any combination, but you'll have to wait for
them to build it. ..."

If no one responds with photos, you might want to check with the
Toyota Land Cruiser Association. Very possible you will find someone
associated with that organization that can help you.
