I can't find anything about a "von Blankertz" family, but could it be "von Blanckart"? According to http://www.alsdorf-online.de/de/geschichte/kirchenrechnung/ "Ludwig Anton von Blanckart" lived in Düsseldorf (some time after 1756). Searching for Albert Wilhelm in genealogical books published in 1900 and in 1910 provided no results. However, he may be mentioned in a similar book published in 1884. Have you any idea how old Albert Wilhelm might have been in 1860? |

A.W. Von Blankertz was my gg-grandfather. I have very little information. He was supposedly a younger son who left with his wife and two children for America. His wife died during the trip or just after arrival, the two children (a boy and my g-grandmother) were put up for adoption. Albert joined the Union Army during the Civil War and died in a southern prison camp. My grandmother's name was Alberta Wilhelmina but name was changed to Adelice Ferris when she was adopted in USA. During the 1930's, a letter was received from Germany indicating my grandmother had an inheritance. Two German-speaking lawyers went to Dusseldorf and returned with about $650 for my grandmother. That's all I have, and I'm not sure of the name, but it is what everyone in the family says, Von Blankertz. I hope this will help. Blake |

I had another look at several genealogical books. Nothing about a "von Blankertz" family, and nothing about a member of the "von Blanckart" family leaving for America. However, it may well be that detailed information concerning relatives living in the US wasn't available at the time these genealogical books were published. |
