I'm looking for historical time series data on the average monthly
price of an ounce of gold in world markets in terms of that market's
currency from 01/1975-01/2000. I already found the pricing data from
the Perth Mint in
Australia, and I have the London Fixed in USD. I'd like to find the
cost of an ounce of gold in German Marks or French Franks, or any
major Asian market but not from a currency converter-type program.
All they do is use current exchange rates and multiply those by the
gold price in London at that time. Can you help me find this raw
data?

Hello jump2782!
I was not able to locate the raw data you're looking for, but I have
found (monthly or daily) historical exchange rates (against US Dollar)
for several currencies, including German Mark, French Franc, Swiss
Franc and Yen since 1970, in Excel format. With these series and the
gold price series you have, it should be easy to find the prices
you're looking for using Excel.

I know this is not exactly what you were looking for; please let me
know if you want me to post the link to these historical series as an
answer, or if you'd rather wait to see if another Researcher can find
the raw data.

Best wishes!

Elmarto,
Thanks for your efforts, but those prices wont do me any good... I'm
trying to find the actual prices from the different markets (Germany,
Tokyo, Hong Kong, Sydney etc.) not "calculated" prices. I was going
to use this data for a paper but it has simply proven too difficult to
find so I'm going to change my paper topic. Anyway, as I said, thanks
for the effort but I don't think the data I want is out there.
