There's a certain kind of lingerie that's just arm sleeves and a
connecting band over the shoulders. Any ideas about how to find such
an item or what it's called?

Thanks

Greetings Cwd:

What an interesting research journey I've had to answer your question!
The garment you seek is called a shrug. Here's how I went about
locating the name and the examples for your consideration.

I first found a few links for you by searching
"arm sleeves" lingerie
but these are snug fit gauntlet-type items that don't go all the way
to the shoulder - like arm warmers:
http://www.lollipoplingerie.com/stat/MUH03-2837-258.html
http://www.musotica.com/noname94.html

After a few keyword variations on the design, I hit upon the term "shrug"
"A popular accessory over the last two years, has been the shrug. This
garment consists of two sleeves with a strip connecting them across
the back. This pattern can make a very fresh and innovative accessory
for a high glamour dance costume."
From http://www.davina.org/CNMay2001/Patterns.html

Here's a leather shrug:

I think you are looking for a dance shrug design, though, like the one
at http://www.allaboutdance.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=AL114345&Category_Code=body-knitwear
or http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.php3?mf=http://www.discountdance.com/dancewear/product_1630.html.
This design is the closest to your description and dance shrugs have
almost no back to them.

Then, I found lace shrugs:

http://www.bippy.com/4031.htm - see the Shrug price at the bottom of
the page. Only $18.50! With removable maribou. The site at
http://www.wylde.com/_sldlingerie/it050014.htm offers the same one for
$23.99.

Plus-size black lace shrugs

There a listing for a "fishnet shrug any size" about 3/4 of the way
down the page at http://members.ebay.com/ws2/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=theblackcatcloset
- the seller is The Black Cat Closet at Ebay. The seller page is
located at http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=theblackcatcloset&item=-1&frompage=222
if you want to contact that store.

Thanks for asking this interesting question! Should you require
clarification of any of the links or information I have provided,
please request it and I will be happy to respond.

Wow! Not only do I get an answer. I get the research method too.
Thank you very much. The best I could think to try was "bolero" and
"sleeves only". Thanks again!

"Wow!" back at you, Cwd! I'm delighted that you are pleased with my
results, and I thank you for your added generosity and the kind words.

It was a pleasure playing Nancy Drew on this topic and I'm glad you
enjoyed my sharing the method of my research. I do love a good
mystery. ;)
