Generic firewire enclosure won't always mount HD

I have a generic firewire enclosure I bought for an extra 125 gig
drive I had laying around. This is for a b/w G3 Mac running 10.2, as
well as other macs that I work on around town (all G4 and G5s running
10.2 and 10.3).

I bought it at NewEgg for $40 approx. I put then drive it, and
sometime it mounts sometimes it doesn?t. Some Macs it likes, some it
doesn?t. When it doesn?t mount, it doesn?t even show up in Apple
system profiler.

Why is it so hap hazard.? Have I set the jumpers wrong? I set the
drive to cable select.

Is this case just temperamental? Where can I buy a solid one.

The case is totally generic. No brand markings on it or the box it came in.

It does say model@ PM-350C2-PTS

And it says works on mac and pc. The case also has a usb 2.0 jack,
but I don?t need that, it would be way to slow for my large QuickTime
files.

thanx in advance

The case type is Plumax. You might want to try getting a hold of
their tech support # by calling a reseller such as PC Microstore
(www.pcmicrostore.com). It may be defective?

This is exactly the same issue I have with a "named brand" one on my
pc, except mine is only firewire. You should try the USB 2 connection
as it is actually faster than firewire is, though with some extra cpu
overhead. Firewire is rated at 400mbps and USB2 at 480mbps.
