Question ID: 327506
where did the satellite maps that were linked to the google search
engine go? It used to be that you could type in a listed phone number
and get street info... with a button linking to a satellite map of the
address.

MJ Walsh -

I just tried to search for a listed phone number and got what I always
got - the address, with referrals to the maps of the area (but no
setallite photo) - are you aure about it?

To clarify:
A year ago and longer, when a 10 digit phone number was entered into
the main Google text entry box -- the phone number, name of listing
party, street, city, state and zip would then appear as the result of
the google search. In addition, there were links to Yahoo Maps,
MapQuest AND satellite image maps. I hadn't tried to do this since
LAST SCHOOL year and when I tried yesterday -- the satellite image
maps LINK is no longer available in the google search result. Does
anyone know what happened to those links or where one can go to get a
link to a satellite image based on a street address in the USA? Maybe
the homeland security people thought it was too much of a "risk" to
have this information available? Or am I just paranoid?

Could the satellite photos have been aerials from TerraServer?

TerraServer
http://terraserver.microsoft.com/

It's not search engine linked, but is available for a stand-alone
search if you have an address.

Well the satellite phots could have been from TerraServer EXCEPT the

Mapquest used to link you to an aerial view of whatever address you
entered. I noticed they stopped doing this about a year ago. Google
may have returned results from mapquest and ultimately the aerial
link.
