Clicking an Email address does not get a blank Email form. [Outlook
2002. O.S. Windows XP Home]
When I click on name@server.com, for example, I get the Outlook Today
page, when I should get a blank Email form with name@server.com in the
To: field.

This problem is not always consistent. Recently, I Restored my
computer to an earlier date (using the Windows XP Restore function).
For a couple of days, clicking an Email address worked perfectly,
opening a blank Email addressed to the address I clicked on. The next
day, it reverted back to the old problem, presenting the Outlook Today
page instead of a blank Email form. This is a frustrating problem.

Hi web7,

I found this on a forum - hopefully it will help -

Subject: Re: Clicking Email address does not open a blank email
Newsgroups: microsoft.public.outlook
Answer:
Open My Computer
Select Tools | Folder Options | File Types
Scroll through the list and select the entry for URL:MailTo Protocol
Select Advanced | Edit
Make sure the following is in the Application used... field:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT OFFICE\Office11\OUTLOOK.EXE" -c IPM.Note /m "%1"

**Note - the path to your Outlook.exe file may be different. You need to
verify the correct path to enter on your PC.

Please let us know how that goes - I'm sorry that it has taken so long
for your GA question to receive a response.

Good luck,

Response to Hummer's Request for Clarification:
Thank you for the tip. I tried it without success. My version of
Windows XP does not offer the action path choices listed in your tip
(i.e. from My Computer, there was no "Select tools > folder options >
file types" etc. choices available). Therefore,I could not carry out
the instructions.

However, a couple of days ago, I downloaded and installed Office
Service Pak 3, which, apparently, cured the problem, as I have not
experienced it since! Now, every time I click on an Email address, I
get a blank, addressed Email form. How nice for a change for Outlook
to work as it's supposed to.
Thanks, WEB7
