I'd like to find my Saveur magazine reading friend a new treat. He is
a fan of complex tastes for simple people (tourtiere as opposed to
caviar), in other words interesting foods that average people eat. He
is a man of great delis, good dives, and local bakeries.

Some of the things on his coffee table right now:
Saveur 100
Martha Stewart living
Vogue (for the Jeff Steingarten article)
Zingerman's catalog
Trader Joe's flyer
Receipt from Whole Foods

I've seen him eat:

premium ice cream
big midwestern/german/sausage meals
filled breads
brazilian churrascaria
interesting cheeses
sushi
farm breakfasts
(He's a big dairy and meat man.)

I'm looking for something that he hasn't tried yet, but might enjoy.
However, he's tried a lot of things, many international dishes
especially, and I'm hoping for something that he hasn't even heard of.
I'm thinking something sweet might yield something new, but I'm open
to suggestions. Recipes are nice, but I'm sort of thinking mail order.
Please remember, it's for "the common man", so no truffles. Any ideas?

How about Hawaiian white honey? It's delectable.

Another scrumptious suggestion: Cannoli cake. I had some of this at a
party once. I've forgotten other details of the party, but I remember
the cake. You have to taste it to believe it.

Well, if he's got a sweet tooth, you can't do much bettter than Fat
Witch Brownies. Access the site:< http://www.fatwitch.com/gifts.html
>. Their gifts come attractively packaged. I received one as a gift
and ate them all in 2 days.
