I want code examples of how to post to a form handler (like a .cgi
program) using Flash MX.

I've got a form with various fields like name/tel etc and a Submit
button, I want it so that when the submit button is pressed it posts
the data (using http post method) to a handler like formmail.pl for
example, and then I display something like Thank you instead of the
actual form. I'm sure there are articles out there regarding this but
I cant find them.

Hi,

Doing this right now as a matter of fact. MX is easier than previous
versions.

A good page to read and take note of is

Actionscript.org
http://www.actionscripts.org/tutorials/intermediate/passing_variables_around/index.shtml

and

Virtual-Fx.net
http://www.virtual-fx.net/vfx/tutorial.php

Both will give you the examples of doing what you are trying to
accomplish. Its my experience that Action-Script is a little flaky in
getting it to work, but once you've got it, the results are usually
worth it.

I don't know if you realize this but you can also pass XML back and
forth through Flash now.

Here are some sites to find information on this.

XML FAQ
http://www.tupps.com/flash/faq/xml.html

http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/action_scripts/objects/xml_object.html

Macromedia is getting better at putting example code on their website,
so you might want to start there first for your project.

Good luck in your project.

I may be missing something here, since this was simple to find, so
rather than giving you an answer and finding out it's not what you
wanted, I'll simply post this as a comment. The best tutorial for
creating submission forms with Flash MX seems to be Macromedia's own
at ...

http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/applications/creating_forms/index.html

For earlier versions of Flash, I recommend the FlashKit tutorials at
...

http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Dynamic_Content/

See especially the "Email in Flash the Easy way Tutorial".

If that's what you're looking for, let me know, and I'll post it as an
"official" answer.

Looks like a went and stomped on Rico's toes. I saw the Flash question
and was literally working on the exact same thing, and whap-bam-slap
put the answer in there.. Then, after I posted and was reading over
the answer (formating check), I saw his comment below. ... Need to
drink more coffee.

Sorry about that Rico.
