Hi! Thanks for the question. The Microsoft website has the following instruction to get to the Dos prompt (or Command Prompt) in Windows XP Pro. "To open command prompt, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt." Windows XP Professional Documentation: "MS-DOS overview" http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/default.mspx Search terms used: MS-DOS overview Searched at the Microsoft website I hope these links would help you in your research. Or just press the Window key (between the ctrl and alt key) with R (window-R) and type in CMD and Enter. Not that intuitive, but when you do it a lot on different machines, it's the easiest. |

You can also enter DOS mode without entering windows using the recovery console, if you have the Windows XP Pro CD. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive and reboot the computer. When the computer prompts you to press any key to boot from the CD press a key. The computer will go to the XP setup screen and load a few items onto in the hard drive. When it asks you if you want to install a fresh copy of XP or recover an existing copy press "r" to recove an exesting copy. You will then enter the recovery console and be asked for the administrator password, enter it and you are in DOS (though it does not have all the DOS functions and it is very picky about the way you type in the commands). Hope you find this usefull |
