Are there any celebrated books, works of art, etc. created by people
over 100 years of age? I'm looking for any impressive achievement
other than serving as a politician (i.e. creating something, not
holding a position). So any kind of invention would work, for
example. I'd count Jacques Barzun's "From Dawn to Decadence" and the
last volume of Joseph Needham's history of Chinese science... if the
authors had only been a few years older when they created them!

"I can't find anything" is, of course, a perfectly valid answer after
you've given this five dollars' worth of consideration. Thanks!

Carl

Noah when he built his Ark.

I believe that he was well over 100 when he started.

Grandma Moses finished (and sold) her last painting when she was 101,
and she apparently was still in fine form:

"Her last painting, "The Rainbow," was finished shortly before her
death at age 101. Far from exhibiting decline in the artist, it is an
outstanding example of Moses' idiosyncratic style. It provides a
symbolic climax to an exhibition that breaks new ground in proving
that the art of Grandma Moses outshines the forces of age and
opinion."

"Chronicles of the Big Bend: A Photographic Memoir of Life on the
Border by W. D. Smithers... Although the author was 104 years old when
this book was published, he wrote a very interesting personal history
of his years (1916-1944) on the border in the Big Bend area. Both a
soldier and a professional photographer during that period, Smithers
punctuates his tale with many excellent black and white photographs
that suggest a feel and mood of a place and time long past. His old
memories are perfectly clear and amazingly detailed."
