I would like to know if there are any recordings available by the duo "Hum & Strum". I believe they had a weekday radio program on WHDH in Boston in the late 30s and the forties. They did popular and folk tunes (mostly Irish). I have had no success tracing them on the internet. |

I turned up a couple of tidbits that might be useful: "Once in a while, WGI did get a famous star from vaudeville or the theatre to perform; in April of 1922, for example, WGI broadcast a reading by the respected African-American actor Charles Gilpin, who was appearing on the Boston stage in 'The Emperor Jones.' The popular poet Amy Lowell also stopped by several times in 1922 to read her newest work. Among the entertainers who made new friends by performing at WGI were bandleader Joe Rines, singers Hum and Strum (Tom Currier and Max Zides), and children's show host Big Brother Bob Emery." http://www.geocities.com/uridfm/r/earlybostonradio.htm There's a reference here to a song recorded Hum & Strum called "If I Knock the 'L' Out of Kelly": http://tedmcgraw.com/ted/2_2_03.html |

They also recorded a song that later became a mini-hit for Jerry Lee Lewis, "I Only Want A Buddy, Not A Sweeheart": 10" Records (alphabetical by artist} http://stevexs.tripod.com/comedy/seventy.html |
