Dear Strezlawton,

First of all, I would like to warn you of kind of commercial debt
consolidators, that you might already saw in your spam email,
advertisment and so-on: these are (not always, but in many cases)
scams, or black market loans with high interest.

The Cook County Consolidation AAA <http://www.cookconsolidation.com/>
is a non for profit service, that would help you settle your debt by
giving your advice and convincing your creditors to lower the intrest
rates.

Other services, most of them specialising in mortgage related debt,
are available in a state-list:
CREDIT COUNSELING FOR ILLINOIS
<http://www.obre.state.il.us/CONSUMER/CREDIT%20COUNSELING.htm>

Credit Page <http://www.creditpage.org/> is a service that "brings
together leaders in the credit industry to promote consumer credit
education and credit counseling. The CreditPage? Sponsor logos below
are linked to additional content on sponsor web sites. CreditPage?
does NOT accept commercial advertising and only promotes
not-for-profit consumer credit counselors." They offer links of credit
advisors and other organisations that might help, by categories:
<http://www.creditpage.org/credit_counseling.html>. Illinois services
are listed in: <http://www.creditpage.org/credit_help/illinois_credit.html>.

In addition, it might be a good idea to contact local charities in
Churches or religious organisations.

I hope this answered yoru question. Please contact me if you need any
clarification on this answer before you rate it.

Well, my only problem is I don't know how to go about looking for
charities in local churches. Do I just walk in to random churches and
ask if I could get some money?

If you are a member of a congregation it would help. If you are not,
you might want to look up for church centrals in your local phone book
