To Whom may be interested:

I have a painting by Johannes Hubertus de Haas. I do not know when
this painting was done however I do know it is an original. It
belonged to my mothers estate and I was given this painting. My
questions are as follows.

1. What year was it painted and what did he name the painting?
2. What could the possible value of such a painting be.
3. Who would be my best contact for auctioning this painting and several other.

Dear buttonboy,

Does the general style of your picture resemble this one?

Or this one?

Dear Scriptor-ga,

Yes the painting i have resembles the two you link me to however the
painting I have one cow is laying down looking straight out and the
other cow is looking down at the other cow.

This painting is posted at www.villagephotos.com and when I posted the
painting it the site registered me as buttonboys-gallery. I've had
trouble finding it however another researcher Sublime1-ga has done
research and found the painting at the site. Scriptor I must say that
both you and Sublime have done wonderful work in your research. If
someone can tell me how to rate this and give both of you a tip please
show me. Your both 5 stars and I guess i have the Hollywood walk of
fame, because this is the original and my family always told me so.

Thank You

I read your post and since both you and scriptor both provided both
excellent and useful questions I added a different question to each of
you, and if I knew how I would give both of you $ 50.00.

I'll research the other question.

The picture is 077 its a still life. I guess I didn't get a tip to you
from the previous question, because I became confused in who to tip
but I was going to tip both you and Scriptor. If this is done or not
I'm still getting a tip to you for The Cows Hangin Out question.

Hi Buttonboy...

Well, from your last clarification, you seem to be looking
for a way to compensate both scriptor-ga and I for the
'Cows Hanging Out' question, which is *this* one, so I'm
going to go ahead and post the information I gave you
below, in the comments, as a formal answer. The tip
feature will become available subsequent to that, though
you will only be able to tip the researcher who posted an
answer in the answer space, which is me. Given the small
amount of information I was able to locate, a tip is
really not necessary.

If you want to reward scriptor-ga for his efforts on this
question, I provided information and links in my comments
below which should assist you in doing so, but feel free
to request more information on this topic.

I will here repeat the information I provided for this question:
-------------------------------------------------------------
For the sake of future readers on this site, the
link to the paintng referred to in this question is:
http://www.villagephotos.com/viewpubimage.asp?id_=8487649&selected=846468

I was not able to identify your exact painting. I suspect this
may be very difficult to do, since the original has been in
your family for so long, that the image will not be found on
the internet, as will those which have been bought and sold,
or hung in galleries.

I did find that Johannes Hubertus Leonardus de Haas
(Dutch, 1832-1908) painted a large number of paintings
with 'cattle' or 'cows' in the name and the images,
and he was famous for this topic.

A list of such paintings can be seen on auction sites
such as this one at Quipus:
http://www.quipus.nl/order/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=8&subcat=1439&cat=Johannes+Hubertus+Leonardus+de+Haas

I'm not sure how to interpret the pricing on that page,
but this page from the Gallerie Pappot shows the value
of one of his paintings as $10,000 - $20,000. You'll
have to select Hass from the menu and click the button:
http://www.pappot.com/partcoll.asp?ffLanguage=&Mv=1&Mv=2&Mv=3&Submit=Show+selection

As for a good contact for selling the painting, the
G.B. Tate & Sons site is actively advertising their
interest in purchasing paintings by de Hass, here:
http://www.gbtate.com/Europeanartwanted.html

The ArtPrice website might also prove a valuable
resource, though you must pay for membership:

buttonboy-ga rated this answer:5 out of 5 stars and gave an additional tip of: $80.00
Both Sublime1-ga and Scriptor gave excellent answers to this question
and I will use their research in placing an auction price for this
painting. Please divide the following tip evenly between these two
excellent researchers.

Thank You

In a situation where 2 researchers have contributed and you
want to reward both, here are some options:

Indicate in a comment or clarification which one of us should
answer on this question page, and open a new question for the
other researcher with "For otherresearcher-ga only" in the
subject line, and ask a simple question like "What's your
favorite color?"

If you feel the price on this question page is too high for
the results you received, you can change the price prior to
inviting one of us to answer here, using the instructions
found here:
http://answers.google.com/answers/help.html#followup

Another option would be to cancel this question entirely
by following these instructions from the GA FAQs, and
post two new questions with the respective researchers'
nicks in the subject line.
http://answers.google.com/answers/faq.html#cancel

This would cost a little more, as you would lose the $.50
posting fee for this current question.

You may also wish to keep in mind that Researchers receive
75% of the question price and 100% of the tip.

Best regards...
