I recently spent a week in Japan and stayed at various hotels in
Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiroshima. During my stay I realized that the alarm
clocks in all of the hotels were virtually identical. They were all
branded Seiko, and had two simple dials on the front to set the
wake-up time: one dial for hour and one to set minutes (I think the
minute dial was in 5 or 15 minute increments). On the front green LED
display, the clock would show both the current time and the alarm
time. The clocks were very simple with no radio or confusing buttons.
I was intrigued by the simplicity and trustworthiness of the clocks.
So, my question is, as an American, where can I buy one of these Seiko
clocks? Is there a store or internet site somewhere that I could
possibly find one? I have searched seikousa.com and Ebay with no
luck. It is possible that the clocks are old. I was unable to
estimate a manufacture date just by looking at the clocks. If they're
older, I don't think they would be very old since the hotels I stayed
at were quite modern: Hyatt, Hilton, etc. I would be very happy to
buy a used one. I regret that I didn't take a picture of one.
Thank you,

I appreciate the info, but these aren't quite it. The ones I'm
looking for have digital LED displays. And, the dials I refer to are
actually probably better described as "thumbwheels". Digikey.com has
some thumbwheels that are similar:

Although these aren't exactly the ones I saw in Japan, this gives you
an idea of how the two thumbwheels operate mechanically. Thanks again
for your help.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I was just at the Tokyo
and Osaka Hiltons for a week each. Although the Hilton is considered
modern, those alarm clocks are built into a console which is quite
old. I've been staying there for years and it's never changed. I'm
sure they were specifically made for the hotels to be easy to use. I
doubt you could find them on the retail market- keep an eye out for
auctions or closed/remodeled hotels which might sell off old stuff.
Good luck!
