Hi There :)

I'm not sure which is more challenging - doing the hard work on the
crosstrainer or finding the answer to your question :)

Having done a pretty exhaustive search and led by your comment that
the Cyclone Crosstrainer was a) made by a company called Quantum
Fitness and b) was selling via television ads on Cable TV I have found
out the following information:

I believe that Quantum Fitness is one and the same as (or at least
very closely related to) a US-based company which goes by the name of
Quantum Television. This company specialises in producing, amongst
other things, cookery and fitness equipment specifically for the
infomercial/cable television market.

I went to have a look at their website at http://quantumtv.com/ but at
present, there is simply a placeholder there with loads of ads and the
tagline "Coming Soon! quantumtv.com". Still, it may be a site worth
bookmarking and checking back on from time to time to see what
eventually goes up.

There are a few further references to the Cyclone Crosstrainer that I
found during my research that you may want to check out:

1. Interesting article on the benefits of crosstrainers including the
Cyclone Crosstrainer at

http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/equipment/elliptical.htm
and;

2. More generally, commentary posted by US-based consumers regarding
their (bad) experiences with Quantum TV's products (e.g. fat free plus
cooker) via the Consumer Affairs.com website at

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/catalog/quantum_television.htm

Not to be daunted by the Consumer Affairs.com website (smile), further
searching revealed that there appears to be at least one company in
the UK that does maintain and repair fitness equipment (including
crosstrainers such as the Cyclone Crosstrainer). The name of that
company (and it is the only one in the UK that I have found thus far)
is Aarvak Gymnastic Services Limited and their contact details are:

Aarvak Gymnastics Services Ltd., Back Street, Dumbarton, U.K. G82 4NG
TEL +44 (0) 1389 750762
Email: gymnastics@aarvak.co.uk

They have been established since 1973 and appear not only to supply
but also manufacture and repair pretty much any type of
sporting/fitness equipment you can think of including home gyms,
crosstrainers, treadmills, archery equipment, boxing equipment,
gymnasium equipment, starting pistols....and the list goes on!
Although they clearly seem to specialise in dealing with large
institutions such as sports halls, gyms and government bodies, they
also state that they have provided services, manufacturing and
installations to private clients as well so I think it would
definitely be worth your while to check them out.

You can visit their website at http://www.aarvak.co.uk/ and, in
particular, details of their repair services at
http://www.aarvak.co.uk/repairse.html where they state that "Aarvak
will maintain and repair all types of gymnastic and sporting
equipment, whether portable or fixed. Our mobile engineers can uplift
and return almost any damaged unit." Not only that, but they state
that they can also arrange on-site visits for repairs of equipment as
well.

Also, as suggested by bennyk-ga on 25 Jun 2002, you can also try
giving Cyclone Crosstrainer's US-based service centre a call on
001-800-468-0025 and see if they can offer any help with respect to
UK-based service centres.

Last but not least, if all of the above brings you no joy (and more
importantly, no repair services!), I found a great UK-based company
called A New Body (http://www.anewbody.co.uk/index.html) that
specialises in supplying fitness equipment, including crosstrainers,
to the general public. At present, they have a crosstrainer listed on
their website for £385.00 inclusive of delivery - alternatively, you
can pay £445.00 and not only have the crosstrainer delivered but
assembled and installed as well! All ordering can be done online via
a secure web link and delivery, provided the item is in stock, is
stated as taking up to 10 days.

Thanks for your question - I had fun researching it and even found a
few useful sites for myself (am training for an upcoming 10K event and
need all the help I can get)! For future reference, I've also listed
below the search terms that I had the most success with whilst
researching your question.

Happy training!

Hi,

I am dumbfound by the extensive research you did. I am no stranger to
internet searching (I manage Gimpsy - www.gimpsy.com), but this is
indeed excellent work!

As to the answer, I may have been careless in phrasing the question
;-)
When I called the aarvak company it transpired that they only serve
Scotland, and as I live in London - I am out of luck... Fancy that!

So, the real question should have been 'servicing a fitness equipment
in London, UK'...

I will call the US number and see what I get.

Thanks

MC

Hi again MC :)

Glad that you found the first bit of research helpful :)

I'm running another search now that I know you are based in London -
thus far, I've had a scan through the UK Yellow Pages(see direct
search link immediately below):

http://search.yell.com/search/DoSearch?screen=VAL&state=AMB&companyName=&scrambleSeed=9729&businessType=SPORTS+EQPT+MFRS+%26+WH%27SALERS&location=London&startAt=20

and have found quite a few listings - I've copied a selection of these
which I've listed below which might be helpful - although these
listings fall under "Sports Equipment Manufacturers and Wholesalers",
I think that they are probably worth giving a call as they might
either be willing to repair fitness equipment or else point you in the
right direction:

Let me know how you get on with the US contact telephone number
supplied earlier as well as any of the info supplied in this
clarification - in the meantime, I'll keep looking to see what else I
can dig up :)

Clarification 2

Hi Again MC :)

Following on from my last clarification, I've done some additional
searching using the following search terms and parameters:

google.co.uk search
search term: gym equipment maintenance

search term: gym equipment maintenance london

and have found some more information which may be of assistance.

1.Cardinal Sports Limited

http://www.cardinalsports.co.uk/services/serviceandmaintenance.htm

Although based in Edinburgh, I thought it still might be worth giving
these guys a call as they state that their "team of engineers now
cover the length and breadth of the UK." As with other sites, they do
look as though they service mainly corporate clients, but you never
know! Their contact details are:

Newbridge Industrial Estate, Newbridge, Midlothian, EH28 8PJ
Tel: +44 (0)131 335 3145 Fax: +44 (0)131 333 2133
E-Mail: sales@cardinalsports.co.uk

2.Totally Fitness

http://www.totallyfitness.com/about/faq.html

This company IS based in London - although I suspect that their
maintenance and repair service focuses on equipment which has been
purchased from them directly, ("Repair and maintenance of your
equipment is all part of our service! We supply certified and
authorized engineers to repair and maintain your equipment."), they
might be able to assist. Their contact details are:

Tel: 020 7483 0443
Fax: 020 7483 2858
E-mail: sales@totallyfitness.com
Showroom: 14 St. Georges Mews
Regents Park Road
Primrose Hill
London
NW1 8XE

I hope both clarifications assist in your further enquiries - should
you require further help, please don't hesitate to ask for further
clarification.

Final Clarification

Hi Again :)

Just to confirm that I did run a final search after I posted my
"clarification 2" answer but thus far, have not come up with anything
new.

I am assuming that my previous answers are keeping you busy (smile)
but again, if you require further clarification, please don't hesitate
to request it. In the meantime, if you do get lucky and the previous
research provided does lead you to repair success with your
crosstrainer, don't forget to post a rating and any applicable
comments regarding answers received :)

Cheers
jem-ga

Hello,

Well, it was a very good QUESTION, I'm afraid...

The situation is:
1. I cannot call the US number. Never mind that it is not free from
the UK, but when it DOES answer, I get 'this call is not available
from your dialing area 702T' - nice, eh?

2. I called all the numbers provided. Some were just not doing any
repairs, which is fine, but those that DO repairs refused point blank
to touch my equipment, as they don't have any spare parts AND - not
surprisingly - don't know where to GET them from!

So, I am still stuck ;-(

Thanks

MC

Hi Again MC :)

Sorry to hear you had no luck with your enquiries - I've done some
more searching using google.com search term: Cyclone Crosstrainer

( ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF8&q=Cyclone+Crosstrainer&btnG=Google+Search)
and found a few more pieces of information which may assist.

Firstly, it appears that the crosstrainer is still alive and kicking,
at least in the US - someone is selling the Cyclone Crosstrainer video
on the US eBay site which means that the machines must still be around
- check it out at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1547029597
- perhaps if you send the seller an email (which you can do without
having to place any sort of bid), he might be able to tell you if he
has a US contact number which you can then use to track down potential
UK service centres.

Secondly, I had another look at the commercial info site mentioned in
my original answer to your question:

( http://www.infomercialindex.com/cat/exer.html ) and did a bit more
digging - lo and behold, I found a full postal address (it's a P.O.
Box address but there is an additional contact telephone number
listed). The full contact details as listed on the website are:

Cyclone Crosstrainer
Elliptical exercise machine. Kimiko Tanaka
6 payments of $66.50 equals $399.00, plus $69.95 S&H.
800-516-6622; C/S 800-468-0025; Cyclone Crosstrainer, P.O. Box 51516,
Phoenix, AZ 85076

Finally, I also did a search on the US white pages:

as well as the US yellow pages:

( http://www.yellowpages.com/ ) based on the contact details above
(searching with the telephone numbers, postcode and name supplied) but
am afraid I didn't find anything else.

I do hope that this information does help you further your enquiries.
Please feel free to rate the answer provided thus far, alternatively,
don't hesitate to ask for further clarification.

Oh, one more thing MC

In case you miss it on the first pass, the seller of the Cyclone
Crosstrainer video on the US eBay site noted in my clarification above
has listed his email address for further enquiries as
boyles2you@msn.com (if you scroll down the auction listing, you'll see
his email address listed for further enquiries). The video is noted
as new and I note that it is produced by none other than Quantum
Television!

it looks like you can call their service center in the US and see if
there are any UK service locations...
