My house is a traditional cape-cod style home built in 1934, located
in "Philadelphia Heights" which is on Philadelphia Road in Rosedale,
MD. I have several questions about it, and if I can't get specific
answers perhaps people can point me out where to go to get them? For
one I'm curious as to who built my house. There are MANY like it
around my neighborhood and so I figure this can't be too hard to
figure out? I'd also like to know why my house features, again, like
many in my area, a sort of plain looking square stained glass window
set into the side wall over the staircase? Surely there is some
significance to it in its design? It appears to be a simple
coat-of-arms. I'd like to know as much as possible about it. Why did
the builder feature it? Was this popular in homes built at that time,
or just by this one particular developer/builder? Does it have any
other meaning/significance? I can provide a picture of my stained
glass window, but I don't know how to attach one to this question?
Can anyone comment on that?

According to one website a "bend" or slash across a sheild is a
"shield suspender of a knight commander; signifies defense or
protection." ("Meanings Behind the Symbols," Fleur-de-lis Designs:
