Try this. On the IE menubar, click on Tools -> Internet Options.
Click on the Advanced tab, and, under 'Browsing', uncheck
'Display a notification about every script error'.

Let me know if this works.

Try upgrading to the latest version of IE - IE6 SP1:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Let me know if this works, or if you already have the
latest version installed.

Also, before or after you install IE6 SP1, try this:
Go to your Control Panel, click on the Internet Options
icon, click the Advanced tab, and under the 'Browsing'
options, place a check next to 'Disable Script Debugging'.

Make sure to close down all browser windows before you
test the results, and let me know whether this works.

Okay, I'm 99% certain that I've tracked down the answer,
so I'm going to take a chance and post this as a final
answer, but realize that I'm willing to assist you through
futher dialog if you have problems.

Your exact error message is addressed through the tech
support site at HP, on a page titled:
'Resolving Script Errors When Using the HP Director'

"This solution will correct the following errors:

      Line 114, Character 2

      Line 38, Character 2

      Line 126, Character 9"
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=bpu00676

I will not repeat the instructions here, as they are
long and involved, and I cannot improve on their
presentation. The instructions must be followed exactly,
and if the first solution doesn't work, the instructions
indicate to proceed to the second solution, but the first
solution is quite specific to your error message, whereas
the second is not.

If you are not adept at making these kinds of changes to
your system, I strongly suggest you enlist the assistance
of someone who is comfortable doing so, however, the
directions for this solution are very precise, and should
be easy to follow.

I located this document by searching the HP forums from
the top of this page, for 'director2.htm':
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/home.do?forumId=2

This led to an advanced search page where I checked the
options to search in 'Manuals' and 'ITRC forums':
http://us-support.external.hp.com/emse/bin/doc.pl/emse/bin/doc.pl/distrib_redir=0+1081907115|*?rn=25&source=7000&searchcategory=ALL&from=bsdforums&hpl=1&todo=search&origin=0&wpa=forums1.itrc.hp.com%3A80&searchcriteria=allwords&submit.x=5&esc=us.support.itrc.hp.com&searchtext=director2.htm&submit.y=5&chkServStor=on&presort=rank

This returned results including the page citing your exact
error message, above, as well as the following page, which
is specific to 'HP Photosmart 130, 230, 7150, 7350, and 7550
Printers - Resolving Internet Explorer Errors 214, 216, 196,
and 185', which is located here, but may not have any value
to your situation:
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=c00026390

Should these solutions fail miserably, the one final thing
you can do is to appeal to HP's technical support:

One such option is to try the tech support forum at HP.
This thread looks to be an attempt to resolve a problem
similar to yours, but the answer was given in a private
email to the customer, and the outcome was unsuccessful:

"I am having problems, here is a transcript of a conversation
with a tech adviser, which was to no avail".
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=716493758+1081896955546+28353475&threadId=535017

You can initiate a chat session here:
http://ipgweb.cce.hp.com/ipgna/caller/chat.asp

Or access other support options here:
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/contact_us.html

There is also a business support forum at the following
page, with more support options listed on the left:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/home.do?forumId=2

Please do not rate this answer until you are satisfied that
the answer cannot be improved upon by way of a dialog
established through the "Request for Clarification" process.
