I am producing a video presentation for Girl Scouts USA. We are
seeking hip, young women and girls to serve as spokespeople for this
video, representing a mix of fields and backgrounds --- young female
star athletes, actresses, singers, heros, and girls of other areas of
great achievement (academics, survival, entrepreneurship). These need
to be girls with value in alignment with the Girl Scouts --- someone
like Anne Hathaway, for example, instead of Britney Spears. Looking
for some online resources with a list of these type role models, or an
extensive list from you representing a variety of interest areas.
Need this information in next 24 hours.

K_blank --

A Google search strategy using the following terms brings up a number of lists:
"leading American women"

Concentrations in particular areas can be produced too:
"college basketball" + "leading women"
"U.S. Olympic team" + "leading women"

K_blank2004,

Two small suggestions, with all due respect.

(1) Perhaps you should visit the mathematics, engineering, physics,
biology, chemistry and medical departments of your local college or
university to find young female role models for your video. These are
the areas in which young women most desperately need to know they can
compete and achieve. Then, too, you will give your Girl Scouts
something real to aspire to, rather than the hollow glitz of the mass
media star.

(2) You might wish to consider using non-sexist terminology in your
video. In the early days of women in medicine, the male dominated
profession insisted upon referring to them as "doctresses". This
terminology was correctly rejected as abhorrent sexism by female
doctors, and its use has been eradicated. The fact that female actors
have not similarly rejected the term "actresses" means perhaps that
they have collectively agreed to be exploited in a sexist manner for
personal gain. Nevertheless, it is probably best to avoid including
this subliminal sexist message in a video for young women.

Best Regards,

Alan Kali
