If this accident was a major news item on the day that it occurred,
then most likely you will find a picture of it in the newspaper
archive at the local library nearest the accident site. If it was not
a major news item, then the local newspaper may not have sent a
photographer to the site, in which case the newspaper would not have
any pictures.

As well, for serious accidents the police will usually include
photographs in their investigation, and will have filed those photos
with the accident investigation file in their archives. You may be
able to access the investigation report, including the files, if the
investigation is complete and your aunt provides her written
permission to the investigating police department to open the file for
your viewing.

In either case, it is unlikely that you will find any pictures of the
accident freely available on the Internet. To help confirm this,
though, perhaps you can tell us the name of the nearest city or town
to where the accident occurred, to help narrow down the search;
otherwise, I-80 is a very long highway!

Hello,
The accident was pretty major and involved 3 cars. It was in the city
of Fairfield CA. There was a picture on the front of the Daily
Republic newspaper (it made the front page). I contacted the newspaper
but their archives dont go back that far.

Usually the local library has news papers that go way back. They also
may microfiche of these.

The public library serving Fairfield, CA is the Solano County Library:

http://solanolibrary.com/

and more specifically, the Fairfield Civic Center facility:

http://solanolibrary.com/fairfield.cfm?page=aboutus_menu

I would suggest that you call them up during library hours at the
phone number provided on the above page, and ask a librarian there if
they have an archived copy of the front page for the local newspaper
for the date of the accident, and whether a photograph of the accident
appeared with the story. If so, they may be able to print off a copy
and send it to you.

Hope this helps,
