Can you be a bit more specific in your question so we can better help
you find exactly what you need? Military records for a person in which
country's military, what dates, anything else???

I want to add to my family's history by including the military records
of my father who served in World War II. He passed away in 1970. All I
know is he served in the navy from 1942 to 1945. He never discussed
his service with any family member

Do you know what branch of service? What country he was in? His name?

Donze --

Researchers don't see anything more than anything that you've posted
here, so they don't know your country or location. I'm going to
assume that you're in the United States, even while knowing the
dangers of the word "assume".

There is a limited amount of information available on-line but
military records can be obtained writing to:

Military Records Facility
9700 Page Avenue
St. Louis Missouri 63132-5100
Phone: (800) 318-5298

Instructions at the National Personnel Records Center site note that
you should minimally include service member's complete name, social
security number and/or serial number, and the requester's return
address. Full instructions and information is here:
National Personnel Records Center
"Military Records Request" (undated)
http://www.archives.gov/facilities/mo/st_louis/military_personnel_records/standard_form_180_content.html

You will need a Standard Form 180 -- or you can now use this
electronic link -- but only if you're a relative of the veteran:
NARA
"Request Copies of Military Personnel Records"
http://www.archives.gov/research_room/vetrecs/

The searchable database at the site is called Archival Research
Catalog (ARC) and includes lists of Army (and Army Air Force) wounded
and honor list (missing and killed in action. The ARC database is by
home state and county, rather than by name:
http://www.archives.gov/research_room/arc/wwii/navy_marines_coast_guard_casualties/table_of_contents.html

Access Genealogy's guide to military records also has links to a
number of military records. They have a good collection of links to a
variety of sources:
Access Genealogy
"Military Records ? Types" (undated)
http://www.accessgenealogy.com/military

Google search strategy:
genealogy + "military records"

Best regards,

Probably not exactly what you are looking for since it is not a direct
link but it is a good start with a huge collection of all kinds of
WWII links
