A lot of information can be obtained from spectroscopy, from examining the way light is polarised and from looking at the dust's behaviour in magnetic fields. This url has some useful info - http://www.astrochem.org/DenseISM.html There's a lot of information on the web, but I didn't find pages that summarised it. Useful search terms would be ISM (Interstellar Medium), GMC (Giant Molecular Clouds) and Bok Globules. Ian G. |
