Thank you for your answer. These are very helpful. I am wondering if
the manner in which you searched brings up all the photo books that
address both the oceans as well as humanity's relationship to the
oceans?

Some of the books may concern humanity's relationship to the oceans,
but the manner in which I searched simply brought up the books that
the Library of Congress and/or Amazon classified as "ocean
photography" and/or "ocean pictorial works."

I hope this helps. If anything is unclear, please post another
clarification request. Thanks.

Thanks again for your help. I did a search of my own and came up with
quite a few more large format picture books including Blue Planet (the
accompanying book to the TV series--filled with photos.) Light in the
Sea: An Undersea Journey, Water Light Time, and The Great Barrier
Reef, published in 2002 all by David Doubilet, Coral Reefs - Nature's
Richest Realm (1990) and Coral Seas (1999) by Roger Steene, Within a
Rainbowed Sea by Chris Newbert, Hidden SeaScapes by Feodor Pitcairn.
Also http://www.oceans.com.au/oepic.html brought up even more books.
alas your search missed alot of items.
I hope this helps you on your future searches to suss out everything
that's out there.
Alas I think I should have done the search myself and saved some money.

I'm sorry that you were disappointed.

Frankly, I must point out that some of the books that you found are
more about "marine biology" or specific sea themes (e.g., the great
barrier reef) than the broad theme of "the oceans" specified in your
question.

If you had indicated that you were every possible marine photography
book, I would have broadened my search. You asked for books on "the
oceans." That's a broad theme and the books that I found matched that.

That should have read:

"If you had indicated that you wanted every possible marine photography
book..."

Alas I found quite a few more resources after getting back the answer
so in retrospect Google news didn't save me much time. Ah well live
and learn--my first try with Google news was magnificent--one out of
two isn't so bad.
