I am in a band, and we are going to hand out free demo CDs to people,
including kids anywhere from ages 13 and up. I am concerned because
there are some curse words and strong words in the songs. Some of the
words are:
cocane, tits, heroin, methamphetamine. The songs are somewhat about
drugs we have done in the past, in no way to we promote it like
telling people to do drugs. Anyway, please research this and let me
know if I should censor those type of words, or if I can just add a
parental advisory warning on the cd and be safe. Thanks.

Hello point0eight-ga,

The Recording Industry Association of America has guidelines for the
use of Parental Advisory Labels at their website. This information
may be useful to you.

Based on what I read, it looks like you would be O.K. by adding the
Parental Advisory Label. Although, you may want to be cautious about
handing the CD to kids that are too young without their parent?s
approval. After all, the parental advisory only works if the parents
know about it.

You may consider giving the CD with the label to adults and giving an
edited CD to kids.

Thanks for the research. What I basically need to know is if it is
legal to hand out cds to people under 18 with this the curse words on
it. Please advise.
