Hello all. I have seen some wonderful work done with previous questions like this so I thought I would probe the collective brain of the researchers here. I am putting together a web site which will be a holistic/alternative health/spiritual directory, event calendar, online store, magazine, etc. I do not yet have a working name for it, because it is so dependent on finding the right domain name and would love suggestions. Obviously I would prefer an unregistered one, but I am willing to pay up to $500 for the right name. Please use the comment section and if a winner is chosen I will notify you and you can answer the question and I'll leave a tip too. Thanks! |

My suggestion: "Holiston" - an easy artificial word with the great advantage that the domain www.holiston.com is still unregistered. Scriptor |

Howdy shiva777-ga, All of the below are available as domain names and do not appear to have been copyrighted. - Spiricenter - Holispiritual - Alternavistics - Alternavista(s) - Alternavigate - Alternavigation Another is: - Holicenter However, there is a ski resort that uses HoliCenter as the name of one of their facilities. http://www.holimont.com/seminar_facilities.asp Looking Forward, denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher |

If you think the domain name is important, then try to be clear about its purpose. Creating slick-sounding new names by combining words always suggests to me a slick commercial-type site, and you might not want to give that impression. Also, remember that separate words used in hyphen-separated form in the domain name will rate highly with search engines, whereas combined or merged, they will have no benefit. For example, spiritual-health.com would be a good start to creating a site that would rate well in searches for either of those words (currently available for sub $500). Whereas spirihealth or spiritualhealth or any other combination would not help one bit in search engine ratings. IME, making it easy for search engines to list your site for relevant searches is much more important than the domain name itself. HTH David |

Actually, a hybrid approach would probably be better. People don't remember hyphenated domain names very well, and from a branding/trademark stance, the use of "common words" in a company name makes for a weak copyright, and a generic feel to a company. So you get a domain name such as spiritual-health.com as david_uk-ga suggests for the search engine appeal, and a domain name such as alternavigate.com for the strong trademark of an invented word, and point both domain names to the same web site.
