I am doing a student film project that has a scene where we see a shot
of a video transmission from space. I want to find a list of 10-15
movies, made in the last 10 years, that feature similar scenes, shots,
or sequences. I'm hoping to use the movies as visual references to
help me build an authentic visual sequence. The elements I'm looking
for are distorted, deteriorated images, either color or black and
white, that are clearly travelling a long distance and being disrupted
along the way. Graphic elements such as graphs, heads-up displays,
and time-code style numbers are NOT important to me. What is most
important is the overall quality of the video image: what are the
various types of distortion, degredation, and interference.

I'd like to add another element to this question: I'm also looking for
sequences/scenes with NASA type voices/chatter/dialogue. Distorted,
reverb-y, echo-y type audio transmissions from "ground control" to
space.

Here is a list of a few movies that might match what you're looking for:

Lost in Space ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0120738/ )
Space Cowboys ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0186566/ )
Solaris ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0307479/ )
Armageddon ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0120591/ )

This one isn't within the last 10 years, but definetely is what you're looking for:

2001: A Space Odyssey ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0062622/ )

These are just a few that i got off the top of my head. Hope it helps.
