Having problems with Macs and PC sharing a share on w SBS 2000 server

I have a share on a SBS 2000 server that Macs and PCs share. The Macs
are all OSX, and the PCs are all XP.

Over the last 11 months, I have had to rebuild permissions on the
share twice. There has been corruption and even a weird issue with
files appearing to suddenly disappear (for the macs, but no the PCs).

I am ready to stop letting macs and pcs access the same share. I
heard that this simply does not work over the long haul. I heard that
there are various invisible folders and files that macs create that
become problems for pc users. I have seen these myself.

My questions are:
#1 - Is it true that my letting both Macs and PC share a share, I am
asking for corruption and compromising file integrity in the long run?

#2 ? Is there some way around this problem. Maybe a techniques, a
setting, or a 3rd party tool.

I keep up on all the service packs.

thanx in advnce
