Whenever I try to install UMAX Astra 3400 scanner into my system
running on Win XP it does not function.
Can you resolve?

Just follow the instructions at the page:
"Extract the file to a folder. Install the software. Shut down your
computer connect the scanner and reboot. XP should locate the device
by itself. If it doesn't work the first time. Unplug the scanner.
Uninstall the software. Reboot your computer WITHOUT the software or
hardware connected. Try again. Takes 2 - 3 tries, but works great once
you get it installed. WARNING - If you are running XP - use the XP
Scanner software not the Vistascan. It is not compatible with XP and
will lock up your computer."
To install the software run it by double clicking on it at the folder
where you extracted it.

Surf to www.umax.com and click on Tech Support in the left-hand menu.

You will then see this:
"Do you need a scanner driver or patch?
Select your scanner and operating system:
Windows XP users: A Windows XP Patch is required. Use the form above
to check for Windows XP compatibility."

Enter your scanner model and operating system and continue onward.
