I need to create a chart listing the top 10 (or 7 or 5) reasons why
toddlers die, including the approximate number of deaths for each
reason. I'm looking for just US data, not worldwide. I also need to
cite the source of the data.

Hello.

According to U.S. Government data, the leading causes of toddlers
(children ages 1-4) are:

CAUSE (deaths per 100,000):

Uninentional injury (11.7)
Congenital malformations (3.1)
Malignant neoplasms (2.6)
Homicide (2.1)
Diseases of the heart (1.1)
Pneumonia and influenza (0.6)
Septicemia (0.6)

The first category (unintentional injury) breaks down as follows:

CAUSE (deaths per 100,000):

Motor Vehicle Crashes (4.2)
Drowning (3.1)
Fires and Burns (1.9)
Firearms (0.3)

search strategy:
"children under" deaths car drowning site:gov

I hope this helps.

Sorry for that typo above:

"Uninentional" = "Unintentional"

And sorry for the missing word in the first sentence:
"... leading causes of toddlers' deaths..."

That was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
